Under Footing Bracket with Resistance Piers
This bracket and pier combination is used for existing foundations to provide lift and/or stabilization. The bracket is placed under the existing footing and the pier is slowly advanced to a sufficient load bearing strata (typically bedrock). Once the pier is driven, you can then push against the pier to provide support for the foundation. These types of piers offer the most support and are by far the most reliable of piering systems.
Atlas installs resistance piers with capacities from 60,000 to 120,000 lbs. For lighter structures such as single story homes, stoops, garage columns, etc, a helical pier is the optimal product.
If your foundation is sinking or settling, it could require extra support from a helical pier. Helical piers are a type of foundation pier that is used to support the foundation when it begins to settle or sink. These devices are screwed into the ground beneath the foundation, anchoring themselves into stable soil beneath the shifting top layers of soil. The weight of the structure is transferred onto the pier and it is then used to stabilize the foundation, lifting it to its correct position.
Helical piers are typically used in situations where the loads are not sufficient for resistance piers. The helical piers are screwed into the ground using a hydraulic torque motor. The flights on the shaft pull the pier into the ground and then serve as bearing support. Usually these piers will torque into very dense soil or partially weathered rock.
Atlas installs helical piers with capacities from 30,000 to 60,000 lbs in residential applications and up to 200,000 lbs in commercial applications.
Tiebacks are used primarily to resist lateral forces on basement walls, landscape walls and footings. This horizontal pressure is extremely effective in straightening bowing or leaning basement walls. For basement walls, the tiebacks are installed from inside the basement and the helical piers are screwed into the soil on the other side of the wall. A plate or steel channel is used to increase the surface area that the pier is supporting, making sure that the helical tieback does not damage the wall as it straightens it. Atlas installs tiebacks with capacities from 45,000 to 200,000 lbs.
New Construction Helical Piers
Atlas Piers installs new construction helical piers for home builders and re-modelers. These piers can be installed in portions of new footings or throughout the entire foundation footprint. This helps prevent future foundation problems by creating a more stable foundation in the first place. Home builders choose this option to extend foundation warranties, ensure structural integrity and whenever marginal soils prevent using other foundation methods.
Many times during an addition, there are obstacles that prevent typical foundations, or there are concerns about existing soils. Installing new construction piers during the initial building phase can help ensure that the foundation remains structurally sound no matter what obstacles occur. Atlas installs new construction helical piers with a wide range of capacities. Call for your specific requirements.
Helical Slab Piers
Helical slab piers work much the same as helical piers. These piers provide support for failing slabs in areas such as garages, basements and patios. These piers are used by coring a hole in the concrete and then installing the helical pier with a channel bracket. The bracket helps connect the pier more securely to the foundation, ensuring that it can effectively support the structure.
Atlas installs helical slab piers with capacities up to 20,000 lbs. On this page, there are a few other diagrams of the usage of our products. Please contact us for additional information and questions about usage of our helical slab piers and other underpinning products.
Carbon Fiber Reinforcement
We install Carbon Fiber Reinforcement Strips as well. These strips are normally used to straighten bowing or leaning basement walls. The strips are applied to the wall to add strength and support. They “lock” the wall into place, stabilizing and straightening it, and closing any cracks that may have formed.
